Now if you have done some or lots of botting, this is where it comes in for the Quaffle part of Quidditch. You will need to know your answers well and be able to type them as quickly and as accurately as you can to ensure your answer is: A. Correct Now, with the Quaffle part, you have to remember that there is no Seeker aspect to this game, that is an entirely different aspect which will be taught in the December Lesson but you will have the basic idea of the relationship between the Quaffle Bot and the Seeker Game later on in this lesson! Now there are two units to be discussed in this lesson, the first unit we will cover is the Quaffle Game aspect in which how it works and plays from the start to the bludger to the end of the game. The referee aspect of the game will also be taught, and a referee bot and a smaller version of the question set will be provided. The Quaffle Game In an actual HOL Quaffle game, there has to be at most 6 players, and the game is divided into 3 different types of players. Read below for further information about them. Chasers: Beaters: Keeper: Now that you know what the position's job is and what it entails, it is time to learn how the Quaffle game work. At the start before the actual game begins, if you remember back in the first lesson, you learnt how to change your nick. Below are the format and an example of how to do it. The format in order to play in the game is: [Team Name]-[Position and Number]-[Your Nick/Name]. So for example, if I was playing for the Gryffindor Quidditch Team as a Keeper, I would use the nick "G-K-Missa". Here below is an example or two to get an idea: Maya Winters is on the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team and playing as a Chaser: R-C1-Maya (Or in Maya's case, R-C1-Winters) A Hufflepuff Quidditch Team member Tarm Black is playing as a Seeker: H-S-Black To change your nick, it's /nick [New Nick] (as you learned in the first lesson). So for the first example, it would be /nick G-K-Missa. Once that happened, the Quaffle Play would start and it always start off with an Introduction. The following examples in this lesson will be from the Boys vs Girls Game on the 4th of November 2006. The referee of this game was Johnathan Myrie (His nick was Kamio). [08:19:42] [tKamio] Ladies and gentlemen! Kindly welcome the Girls Quidditch Team!![08:19:43] [Kamio] I give you - [08:19:44] [Kamio] Lilly! [08:19:44] [Kamio] Tarma! [08:19:45] [Kamio] Talya! [08:19:46] [Kamio] Julie! [08:19:46] [Kamio] Faye! [08:19:47] [Kamio] Lily! [08:19:49] [Kamio] Aaaaaaand - Missa! [08:19:51] [Kamio] And now, please greet the Boys Quidditch Team!! [08:19:53] [Kamio] Presenting - [08:19:55] [Kamio] Peter! [08:19:57] [Kamio] Tambaqui! [08:19:58] [Kamio] Aaron! [08:20:00] [Kamio] Matt! [08:20:03] [Kamio] XDalen! [08:20:04] [Kamio] Ryan! [08:20:07] [Kamio] Aaaaaaand - Mark! Now with the introduction, it introduces both teams separately.
The names appears in order of their position. It's pretty self explanatory and easy to understand. If you look at this link: http://hol.org.uk/wiki/Quidditch_Rules#Quaffle_Play It briefly discusses how the Quaffle Play Work: Question #1 3 Chasers vs. 3 Chasers Now the game starts with All Chaser (Meaning only the 6 Chasers from both team can answer their specific question). So in this case only Lilly, Tarma, Talya, Peter, Tambaqui, and Aaron could answer the first question. Here is the demonstration: [08:20:09] [tKamio] All Chasers Note it starts with a countdown of 5 seconds (Sometimes there is a lag, which we can't do much about). And then the question is asked in blue text and the 6 answers the question. Now looking at the referee perspective, it was Peter who got the answer first (Via the One Letter Rule which would be explained a little later on). Now after that, since the Boy's team Chaser has it, it would then go to Boys Team Chaser vs Girls team Beater. [08:20:30] [tKamio] Boys Chasers versus Girls Beaters So once again Peter Aldridge has it, so with that it automatically goes to Peter (Boy's Chaser) vs Lily (Girl's Keeper). This is Peter's attempt at scoring for the Boy's team. [08:20:43] [tKamio] Peter versus Lily Once again, Peter has the answer correctly after his second attempt and then scores giving the Boy's team a lead on 10 points over the Girl's team. And after this, it would go to the opposing team chaser, which is the Girl's team vs the Boy's team beater. [08:21:00] [tKamio] Girls Chasers versus Boys Beaters Since Xavier had the answer correct it would then go back to the Boy's chaser vs Girl's beater. Had Talya not made those errors, it would've went to Talya (Chaser) vs Ryan (Keeper) where Talya had a chance to score for the girl's team. Now obviously the pattern would repeat throughout the game. Now a question you may ask, what would happen if both team got no answers correct, well it never happened in this game, but the answer would be given and then it would go to the All Chasers battling out to obtain the Quaffle. That pretty much the concept of how to play Quaffle, now before we learn about the Bludgers, remember earlier on we brought up that Peter Aldridge got an answer correct within the One Letter Rule (1lr for Short). It is explained in full details here: http://hol.org.uk/wiki/Quidditch_Rules#Quaffle_Play Now as explained, you are only allowed to make one spelling/typo error to be deemed as Valid and accepted by the referee. So for example: Question: What is Harry Potter's house in Hogwarts? As you see the first five is allowable since there is only one error (with the exception of the first one) Here below you can see why they are acceptable The other two is incorrect since there is more than one error in them and therefore is unacceptable. Now when it comes to numbers, both word and number is acceptable, for example 3 and three. Now ever if you are spamming the numbers and the answer was 3, 23, 34, 13 would not be acceptable of course, regardless of the One Letter Rule. Abbreviation is also unacceptable. All answers including names must be typed out in full. So things like Prof. McGonagall, Gryff, 50 ft, are not acceptable. Similar to abbreviation rules, you can't use shortcut in typing answers in names or location since they are not acceptable by the referee. Below are some examples: Just using part of their name or abbreviation of their name is not acceptable and pretty much lazy. Now the second last section of this first part and that is the Bludgers. Lets look at an example from the Boys vs Girls game. [08:29:46] [Kamio] BLUDGER!! Now generally the rule of thumb for bludgers is that the first 3 players from a team to have bludgers in are deemed safe. So if you look at the bolded part, Peter, Aaron and Ryan had typed Bludgers for the Boy's team first and therefore won the Bludgers for that round. Notice how I have Tarma italics, it means that she also typed dodge within the 3 boys (Peter, Aaron and Ryan) bludgers so she would also be safe as well. So since the Boy's team won the bludgers, they could pick anyone to bludger on the Girl's team except for Lily (Because she is a Keeper and since the Bludger is not in the scoring area, the Keepers are always safe) and Tarma since she dodged it in time. So in that situation, the Boys have decided to Bludger: [08:31:15] [BT-B2-Whisp] I meant Talya You may also notice that Ryan also had a One Letter Error in dodge (which was ddoge), I am sorry to disappoint but One Letter Rule do not apply in Bludgers, only the Quaffle Play (And Snitch Play). [08:46:54] [Kamio] BLUDGER!! So in this situation obviously, only the Keeper would be safe and the Boys can bludger any of the girls (Beside Lily (Keeper) and Missa (Seeker)) Refereeing Quaffle Game So do you want to be a referee for a Quaffle Game? Well this is your chance to learn how to do it! Now before you do anything, you'll need to download a Copy of the Quaffle Referee program and a Question Set. Note that the question set for reffing is not a full net, nor do you have to use this particular set when reffing. If you already have a set that is set up for the ref bot, feel free to use it. Now I will be explaining how to do most of them, once again you will need to be Computer Literate and be able to use the Referee program on your own. There will be some images on the program and what it does. Now let's start with the format of the program when you open it.
Now let's go in order what they are. Now that we are familiar with the main interface of the Quaffle Referee program, lets now familiar ourselves with the menu and what it does.
The first menu is the File Menu. Q: What's the name of the wizards' newspaper?{The Daily Prophet} - Load Team Info: This can give you the opportunity to load the full team
information if you have previously saved it.
The second menu is the view menu, which simply a way of viewing the program. It can be displayed as a full view or compact view (Part 5 of the program won't be displayed and would be replaced by some buttons).
The tools menu is basically where you can adjust the program in a way for Quidditch Purposes. - Set Team Colours: ![]() (click for larger image) This is where you can set the Team colours to the choice of your colours or if you are refereeing a game between two houses, you can simply press the button of the house to use the colours. - Set Score
Say that you made some errors, for example given a team a score when it
was not the case, you are able to change it via this menu. - Set Situation
This is available to you in order to change the situation in any scenarios, for example a Redo (Redo the question for a situation), Penalty Shot, or even Correcting an Error in a situation. - Set Snitch Value
In the HOL Quidditch Game, the Snitch value is always 50 point (The Player who caught the Snitch) rather than 150 points like in the Harry Potter series. However some HOL referees for fun (Not in the HOL Quidditch Games of course), like to tie the games up, by simply setting the value to match the winning team total *g*. - For the Mouse Roll Over function, I am not sure what it does and it is
not really important, so you don't need to worry about this.
The last menu which we will look at is the IRC Menu, which is mainly there to connect the Referee Program to your IRC Program (You must either have mIRC or Pirch to work!!). - The Connect to mIRC/Pirch Client part basically by choosing one
of the two allows you to connect the Referee Program to mIRC or Pirch
in order to Referee any games.
When using this section make sure you: After that, you can just click ok, and you are ready to go!
The last menu which is the Help Menu, it just provides information about the Program, Nothing useful you'll need to know! Now since we know the basic of the Quaffle Program, let's look at how to set up and referee a quaffle game. We will also look at some pointers you need to know in regards to refereeing. 1. To start refereeing, you will need to open the Quaffle Program which
is Quidditch.exe.
12. Now with Peter getting the answer you will have to press the New
Question button, it would then go to Boys Chaser vs Girls Beaters.
13. Now the Chaser vs Keeper scenario. It was between Peter and Lily. So
that means you would only press the button for Peter (C1) or Lilly (K).
If Peter has it, you would press (C1), if it was Lily's, you would of
course press the K Button next to Lily.
14. After the scoring, you have to press the New Question button and it
would go to Girls Chasers vs Boys Beater. So in this you would only be able
to press the button for Lilly (C1), Tarma (C2), Talya (C3), and Matt (B1)
and XDalen (B2). 15. After that, the cycle would repeat by pressing the correct players and then click on the New Question button to continue the game. 16. Here are some things for you to remember: |
